Naw-Rúz is the Bahá’í new year, set by the timing of the spring equinox in the northern hemisphere. It is also a Bahá’í Holy Day.
This year, in the Gregorian calendar, Naw-Rúz will be on Sunday 21st March 2026. It will be the first day of the year 183 BE in the Bahá’í calendar.
For Bahá’ís, it is a day of celebration following the 19 day period of fasting. Adults and children usually take the day off work or school and celebrate with families and friends, and of course at Holy Day gatherings with the wider community.
A new presentation on Naw-Rúz is available on the Calendar page here. It is modular, with links to video resources, so that it can be readily adapted for use across all age groups, and for both assemblies and classroom use. It includes sections on:
Who are the Bahá’ís?
The Bahá’í calendar
The significance of Naw-Rúz (including its ancient origins)
Video resources (including a comedy and an irresistible song)
As ever, your feedback will be welcome. Wishing you all a Happy Naw-Rúz!
